Succop Nature Park, 185 W. Airport Road, Penn Township, hosts Birds and More nature walks at 9 a.m. Thursdays. The newly renovated T.W. Phillips Barn features a WindStax turbine that supplies electricity to the building, a nature store, classroom space, a large upstairs area that can be used for programs or rentals, and numerous bathrooms. Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, will be the site of a “National Public Lands Day” volunteer event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 28. Participants must be 12 or older and must register no later than Sept. 25. Registration is available at http://events.dcnr.pa.gov or call 724-794-6011. Jennings is open regularly from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset.
Moraine State Park will be the site a Muddy Creek Oil Well Living History day is planned for 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the central powerhouse site beyond the State Parks Region 2 office, 195 Park Road, Prospect; visit www.3mjc.org for more information. McConnells Mill State Park in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County off Route 422, has the historic gristmill open from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays through late October. Free tours are given at 1 and 2 p.m. A Volunteer Work Day is planned for 10 a.m. to noon Saturday; registration is required by calling 724-368-8811. A program about Pizza on the Grill is set for 11 a.m. Sunday at the Kildoo Picnic Area.
