Succop Nature Park, 185 W. Airport Road, Penn Township, hosts Birds and More nature walks at 9 a.m. Thursdays. The newly renovated T.W. Phillips Barn features a WindStax turbine that supplies electricity to the building, a nature store, classroom space, a large upstairs area that can be used for programs or rentals, and numerous bathrooms. Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, will be the site of “Nature Detectives: Project Tree Trouble!” at 2 p.m. Sept. 15; registration is required by Sept. 12, and space is limited. “National Public Lands Day” volunteer event will take place at Jennings from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 28; participants must be 12 or older and must register no later than Sept. 25. Registration is available at http://events.dcnr.pa.gov or call 724-794-6011. Jennings is open regularly from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays and on weekends as scheduled. The trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset.
Moraine State Park will be the site of a Full Moon Paddle at 7 p.m. Sept. 13 from the Pleasant Valley Launch on the South Shore; registration is required. To register, call the park office at 724 368-8811.
McConnells Mill State Park in Slippery Rock Township, just over the county line into Lawrence County off Route 422, has the historic gristmill open from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Wednesdays through Sundays. Tours are given at 1 and 2 p.m. Admission is free. A Twilight Walk in Hell’s Hollow is planned for 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday.
