Roche resigns seat on council
A member of Butler City Council announced his resignation at Thursday's meeting.
“Everybody is all great. I wish you all the best of luck in the future,” said Councilman Corey Roche, who resigned because he accepted a job in Florida.
Roche said he will continue his career in event ticketing with a new company.
“It's a new opportunity for work,” he said.
A longtime resident, Roche graduated from Butler High School in 2000.
“I enjoy Butler,” Roche said. “It's a small town, but there's a lot you can do.”
Roche said his time in office was coming to a close regardless, as he chose not to run for re-election.
“It's been interesting. It's not like you think it is as you're going in,” he said. “Just go into it with an open mind.”
Mayor Ben Smith said Roche will be missed.
“Thanks, Corey, for your years of service,” Smith said.
Smith also acknowledged the opening of a temporary seat on council. Roche's replacement would serve until the end of the year. The winner in the November election will occupy the seat in January.
“We'll be accepting applications,” Smith said. “Interested parties are encouraged to apply by letter.”
