BUTLER TWP — Suspected drugs and other contraband were seized during a traffic stop this week on Route 356 and Kemper Road in the township.

State police said they pulled over a car around 12:50 a.m. Monday for having a faulty license plate light and illegally tinted windows.

The smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, driven by Ryan N. Banner, 33, of Chicora, led to a search of it.

Seized were two glassine bags believed to contain unspecified drugs, 25 empty glassine bags and two hypodermic needles, police said.

Banner claimed the items were his, according to court documents.

The search also turned up 187 additional empty stamp bags, a plastic cup with suspected liquid methadone and a plastic straw with white powder residue.

Banner's passenger, Brandon L. Jackson, 40, of Pittsburgh, claimed ownership of those items.

Both men are charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Preliminary hearings for the defendants were not immediately scheduled.
