EVANS CITY — When Ryan Stahurski came to Touch-A-Truck, he had two things in mind.

“Honk the horn and drive them.”

While the 4-year-old didn't get to drive any trucks, he — and dozens of other kids — certainly honked the trucks' horns.

From 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, children from Evans City, Mars, Connoquenessing and throughout the area came to the library to finally climb in the trucks they've been hoping to play with.

Two fire trucks, a police cruiser, an ice cream truck and a backhoe were among the attractions, but the favorites were varied.

Kyle Purvis, 5, said he was excited to play on all the trucks, but his favorite was the Marburger dairy truck — because the horn “mooed” like a cow.

Jacob Kennedy's favorite, though, was the mail truck. Why?“Because they sit on the wrong side,” the 11-year-old said.When kids had played in all the trucks, they still weren't out of entertainment. A balloon artist, face painting and sand art kept them busy while the library sold hot dogs and P&B's Sweets and Eats and a functioning ice cream truck filled the children's fuel tanks for another burst of energy.The event benefitted from a cool evening, but the weather did not look to be cooperating just before it began. Yet with the sun shining and the trucks open, kids and adults alike enjoyed the rare opportunity.“It was awesome,” Jacob said.
