Longtime volunteer, 83, honored as Friend of the Fair
FRANKLIN TWP — There wasn’t a dry eye in the horse show ring Monday when Carl Divers, 83, was recognized for his decades of service to the Big Butler Fair.
The Butler Township man received one of about 70 Friend of the Fair awards being handed out across Pennsylvania this summer by the state Department of Agriculture.
Tracy Barone, fair fund administrator for the department, explained that the directors of the 108 agricultural events in the state are invited to submit the name of a special volunteer for potential recognition.
The Big Butler Fair directors immediately thought of Divers, who served for 40 years with the fair’s Light Horse Department.
