Director of Butler V.A. Healthcare System resigns post

BUTLER TWP — Jon Lasell Jr. will be leaving his position as director of Butler V.A. Health Care System at the end of the week after just more than eight months on the job.

Ken Kalberer, Butler V.A. Health Care System spokesman, said on Tuesday that Lasell resigned this week and his last day will be on Friday, June 14.

Few details were available Tuesday afternoon, but Kalberer said Lasell resigned for personal reasons. Kalberer further said that Lasell, who just assumed the post in October, has another job.

The V.A. announced Lasell's hiring in early September. The last director, David Cord, worked in Butler from November 2015 to January 2018, according to Kalberer.

Kalberer said the local V.A. health care system is somewhat of a leadership training ground because of its smaller size, and it is common for the tenure of directors to be short as they gain experience and move on to larger health care facilities.

Kalberer told the Eagle that the local V.A. will continue to provide top-notch care for its veterans through the transition because of the system's strong leadership team.

The Eagle will update this story as more details become available.
