MOUNDSVILLE, W.Va. — Butler pro heavyweight boxer Ryan Covert won by third-round technical knockout over a West Virginia opponent Saturday night on a pro card in Moundsville, W.Va.
Covert evened his professional record at 2-2 when the fight was stopped 1:35 into the third round. Both fighters had scored knockdowns during the second round.
ROCKVILLE, Md. — Skyler Fox, 16, a Beaver Falls resident and Riverside High School student, was listed as a disqualification on the official results of Monday's U.S. Open sectional qualifying tournament at Woodmont Country Club in Maryland.Fox qualified for the sectional by placing fifth at a local qualifier. He has a junior membership at Connoquenessing Country Club and is a two-time WPIAL Class 2A champion.Billy Hurley III of Maryland, Connor Arendell of Florida, Joseph Bramlett of California and Ryan Sullivan of North Carolina were the U.S. Open qualifiers out of the Woodmont sectional.The U.S. Open is June 13-16 in Pebble Beach, Calif.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Panthers agreed to terms with six-time Pro Bowl free agent defensive tackle Gerald McCoy on a one-year contract worth up to $10.25 million with incentives, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Monday.McCoy, who was cut by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a salary cap move, will receive a $4 million signing bonus.McCoy chose Carolina over Baltimore and Cleveland.
