Biker injured in Center crash

A late night crash between a motorcycle and a SUV Sunday night at Route 8 and Hilltop Drive south of the Clearview Mall in Center Township left the motorcyclist seriously injured.

CENTER TWP — State police are investigating a two-vehicle collision late Sunday night that left a motorcyclist seriously injured.

The crash happened about 10:40 p.m. at Route 8 and Hilltop Drive south of the Clearview Mall in Center Township, state police said. Luke J. Deangelis, 29, of Boyers, who was driving a Harley-Davidson Soft Tail, was flown by medical helicopter to a Pittsburgh hospital, according to a police report.

The other driver, Alice V. Patz, 56, of Kittanning, was taken by ambulance to Butler Memorial Hospital with apparent minor injuries.

Police said Patz was driving north on Route 8 in the right lane when she attempted to make a U-turn in her Toyota RAV4. Deangelis' motorcycle, which was in the left northbound lane, struck the driver's side of the sport utility vehicle.

Butler Ambulance Service took Deangelis, who was not wearing a helmet, to Butler Memorial Hospital where he was later flown by LifeFlight to Allegheny General Hospital. The drivers' conditions were not available Monday. Police said both vehicles had to be towed.
