Mayor seeks state support for Mars 'discovery' project
MARS — Mayor Gregg Hartung recently had a chance to speak about the borough and what it offers to a high-ranking delegation.
Hartung was invited to Harrisburg by Lt. Governor John Fetterman, Sen. Scott Hutchinson, R-21st, and Scott Dunkelberger, who has worked with the state Department of Community and Economic Development for more than three decades.
Dunkelberger currently serves as executive director of the Commonwealth Financing Authority. There, he is responsible for DCED's grant, loan and tax credit programs for site development and business financing.
Hartung and the borough have long discussed joining with NASA to create a STEAM education “discovery center” in downtown Mars. DCED funding has been sought in the past.Over the course of two days, Hartung spoke with state officials, including Gov. Tom Wolf, about the borough and plans moving forward.
