Summer Dramatics, Freeport Festival plan auditions

Butler Summer Dramatics Project plans to conduct auditions for the musical “Oliver!” at 6 p.m. Sunday and Wednesday at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church social hall, Franklin Street.

Youths 9 through college age may audition. Students will learn a short piece of music and a short dance number.

Student orchestra auditions will be conducted at 5 p.m. Sunday and Wednesday

The show will be staged at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 2 and 3 and at 2 p.m. Aug. 4 at the Succop Theater at Butler County Community.

Freeport Theatre Festival will conduct auditions and interviews for its 30th summer season from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday and 10 a.m. to noon June 1 at the festival on the Steele Farm, 2498 White Cloud Road, two miles south of Freeport off Route 356 in Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County.

Many roles are available. The festival is seeking two leading actors for “Arsenic and Old Lace,” a male actor with the comic timing and sense of wacky humor of a Cary Grant, and an effervescent comedienne to counter “Cary Grant.”

Also available is the role of Pietro Barola in “Cauldron of Steele,” a romantic leading man, intense, physically imposing, with a heroic demeanor and sound vocal technique.
