The Butler County Historical Society's Echoes from Our Past — Historic Cemetery Walk has added Delanie Amerson presenting a moment in history about the jeep. Additionally, six costumed actors will be portraying characters and events of Butler County's past.The walk will take place two times, at 2 p.m. May 18 and 19 on the grounds of the North Side Cemetery, 1002 N. Main St. The event is a collaboration between the historical society, Butler County Community College theater and history departments, and the North Side Cemetery Association.Tickets are $14 for adults and $10 for students ages 10 to 21.For tickets, visit the society office at the Sen. Walter Lowrie House, 123 W. Diamond St., directly behind the Butler County Courthouse, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. SLIPPERY ROCK TWP, Lawrence County — The gristmill at McConnells Mill State Park will have its spring opening May 16.The 19th century mill will be open 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Thursdays through Sundays. Admission is free.Interpretive tours, given by staff or volunteer docents, are scheduled at 1 and 2 p.m.Beginning Memorial Day weekend and running through Labor Day weekend, the mill will be open from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays (plus open Memorial Day and Labor Day).Interpretive tours for groups may be scheduled by calling the Moraine park office at 724-368-8811.
The exhibit “Pony Express Trail of Tears and Hope” will be displayed Thursday through May 16 at the Butler Art Center.The show, which contains about 12 pieces, seeks to display a perspective on domestic abuse.Also at the center, about 150 abstract art pieces by Abraham Darlington will be displayed in “The Wild Side: When Chaos Meets Canvas” from Wednesday through May 18. A reception for this exhibit is set from 7 to 9 p.m. May 17.The art center at 344 S. Main St. is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and noon to 4 p.m. Saturdays. OIL CITY — The 12th annual Oil Region Indie Music Festival is June 8 and will showcase local and regional rock, punk, folk and indie musicians and songwriters.The one-day festival will kick off at 2 p.m. on Seneca Street and along Pipeline Alley in Oil City.Admission is free. The festival is sponsored in part by the Oil City Arts Council.
PORTERSVILLE — Portersville Steam Show hosts its Spring Gas-Up May 18 and 19 at the steam show grounds, 1512 Perry Highway.The gates open at 9 a.m. both days, and the bluegrass band Bits 'n Pieces will play at 4 p.m. May 18.Attractions include antique cars, crafts, steam engines and saw milling.Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 11 and younger.
