Tornado hang in playoff race with 5-1 win

Butler's baseball team desperately needed a win Wednesday afternoon against Central Catholic at La Roche College.

The Golden Tornado got it.

Colby Anderson struck out four in 4 1/3 innings, scattering three hits and Butler strung together quality at-bats throughout in a 5-1 victory.

The Golden Tornado were rained out against Allderdice Wednesday, but were able to practice, which turned out to be a blessing.

“We told the kids, 'You guys will get the season you want if you make it the season you want,'” said Butler coach Cody Herald. “'You have to go out and play like you have nothing to lose. They were loose and they had a lot of energy and had a ton of fun.”

Kyle Weitzel doubled and drove in two runs. Cooper Baxter had a RBI double and Mattix Clement had a pair of hits and a RBI for Butler (5-9, 3-4), which is right back in the playoff race in Section 1-6A.

“We're not trying to put that kind of pressure on them,” Herald said. “It was a nice win, but we have a few more (to get).”
