Softball
Freshman first baseman Adeline Nicholson played a key role in The Rock’s doubleheader sweep of host Mercyhurst on Wednesday.
Nicholson homered in both games, a two-run shot in a 4-1 win in Game 1 before doing the same in The Rock’s 9-4 victory in Game 2. She ended the nightcap going 3-for-5 with three RBI.
Camie Shumaker was the winning pitcher in both contests. Her win in the initial game featured six strikeouts, no walks and just one run allowed on three hits in a complete game.
SRU (18-23, 8-8) visits Gannon for a doubleheader Friday.
