Tuesday — Jeremiah A. Atwell, 29, and James A. Merola, 30, both of Slippery Rock were charged in connection with a shoplifting incident last month at the Butler Commons Walmart.

A store employee alleged that he stopped the defendants around 5:30 p.m. March 30 attempting to steal 53 items. But they subsequently fled the store, according to court documents.

During the getaway, police said, Atwell shoved the employee at least twice. All of the merchandise, which totaled $471.45, was recovered.

Police said surveillance video corroborated the employee’s account.

Atwell and Merola are both charged with retail theft and conspiracy. Additionally, Atwell is charged with harassment.

8:30 p.m. April 18 — Vehicles driven by Vijay P. Siripurapu, 33, and Kenneth Fair, 54, both of Butler collided on Hansen Avenue. No injuries were reported, but one of the vehicles had to be towed.

Police cited Siripurapu for driving at an unsafe speed, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving a vehicle without valid inspection and failing to carry both his driver’s license and vehicle registration.

10:24 p.m. Wednesday — Michelle D. Nortier, 29, was arrested after she allegedly assaulted her boyfriend during a domestic dispute at their home on Pemberley Drive.

The victim told police that Nortier punched him in the face and hit him with a hammer. He suffered cuts, bruises and swelling.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned the defendant on charges of simple assault and harassment. She was placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.

2:15 a.m. Wednesday — Natalie E. Truini, 22, of Powell, Ohio, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Kiester Road in Slippery Rock. Charges are pending.

Monday — Bhupenn B. Chand, 39, of Butler Township was charged with DUI in connection with a traffic stop earlier this month in Butler Township. He was stopped around 1:45 a.m. for failing to turn off his high beams as he passed a police cruiser on New Castle Road.

Chand admitted he had been drinking at a party before driving, according to court documents. He allegedly failed field sobriety tests and was taken for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.163 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.

In addition to DUI, Chand is charged with failing to use low beams.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Mercer[/naviga:h3]

2:05 p.m. Wednesday — Two people were hurt when sport utility vehicles driven by Genevra J. Linaberger, 90, of Slippery Rock and Donald J. Kotch, 22, of Grove City collided at Route 208 and George Junior Road in Pine Township.

Both drivers were taken to Grove City Medical Center with suspected minor injuries. Linaberger was wearing a seat belt, but Kotch was not.

Police cited Linaberger for a stop sign violation.
