[naviga:h3]‘Joseph’ musical this weekend[/naviga:h3]
Sing Hosanna! is staging the musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and at 2 p.m. Sunday at the Succop Theater at Butler County Community College.

The Butler High Aquaettes will present the group’s show, this year called “A Splash of Hollywood,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the Butler Senior High School pool.
Tickets will be available at the door for $6 for students and $8 for adults.
Aquaettes is a synchronized swimming group that performs choreographed maneuvers to music.
There are 12 girls and three boys on the team ranging from seventh- to 11th-graders.
The show this year will consist of 12 numbers or routines from various levels of Aquaettes.
The music has been selected with the theme of Hollywood. Songs will include “Hooray for Hollywood” by Doris Day, “7 rings” by Arianna Grande, and “Candle in the Wind” by Elton John.
[naviga:h3]‘Madagascar’ kids’ show free[/naviga:h3]
Grove City College’s theater program presents the Hilda Adams Kring Children’s Theater production of “Madagascar: A Musical Adventure” at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Ketler Auditorium of the Pew Fine Arts Center.
The show is free and no tickets are needed.
Based on the DreamWorks animated movie, “Madagascar: A Musical Adventure” follows a group of animal friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo.

An April star party sponsored by the Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh at Wagman Observatory will begin at about 8 p.m. Saturday.
The Nicholas E. Wagman Observatory is in Deer Lakes Regional Park, Frazer Township, Allegheny County, near Russellton.

The young singers of the Pittsburgh Youth Chorus will present John Rutter’s “Mass of the Children” — along with Three Rivers Young Peoples Orchestras and the Grove City College Concert Choir and Touring Choir — at 4 p.m. Sunday at Moon High School in Coraopolis.
Among the groups that make up the PYC are Butler County singers including McKenna Jones of Saxonburg, member of Troubadours; Gautam Ramkumar of Mars, member of the Bel Canto Singers; Meenakshi Chelian of Mars, a member of the Troubadours; Amsumai Yallalacheruru of Mars, member of Talisman; and Emma Fleming of Harrisville, member of the Grove City Satellite Choir, PYC@GCC.
The second half of the concert will feature each choir performing independently as well as with the full choral ensemble.

The Pittsburgh Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform a concert called “Spring Sinfonia” at 4 p.m. Sunday at Calvary United Methodist Church on Pittsburgh’s North Side, as part of the Tiffany Concert Series.
“Spring Sinfonia” for chamber orchestra and small ensembles will include Ravel’s “Mother Goose Suite,” plus music from Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Shostakovich and Bach.

Allegheny RiverStone Center for the Arts hosts singer/songwriter Shane Alexander, formerly of Butler, for a show at 7:30 p.m. April 27 at Lincoln Hall, 42 S. Palmer St., Foxburg.
The “Small-town in our Bloodstreams” show will feature songs from his albums and some of his favorite covers along with the debut of material from his upcoming CD.
Since his debut in 2005, he’s toured the U.S. and Europe many times, both as a headliner and as an opener for Jewel, John Hiatt, Seal, Bon Iver, Suzanne Vega, Styx and Yes.

[naviga:h3]Vietnam War exhibit opens[/naviga:h3]
The Senator John Heinz History Center presents “The Vietnam War: 1945-1975,” an exhibition on the conflict that shaped American society.
The exhibition uses storytelling, photography and artifacts to tell the personal stories of those impacted by the war.
Also featured is a 20-foot UH-1H “Huey” helicopter used by the U.S. Army from 1967 through 1970.
The role of Western Pennsylvania in the war is examined, from the local soldiers who fought in combat, to Pittsburghers who served in support services, to anti-war protestors.
“The Vietnam War: 1945-1975” opens to the public on Saturday at the history center, 1212 Smallman St., Pittsburgh.

The 33rd annual EQT Children’s Theater Festival is set for May 16 to 19.
