Youth is served on special trout day

Five-year-old Jack Raybuck of Mars gets a little help with his first fish from his father, Curtis, Saturday, during the mentored youth trout day at Glade Run Lake.

With the sun tucked behind the clouds, Curtis Raybuck of Mars trekked across the shoreline of Glade Run Lake with his three children, Owen, 7; Jack, 5; and 18-month-old Ava in tow.

The family had been up since 4:30 a.m. in preparation of the first day of the mentored youth trout fishing day. They made their way to the breast of the dam near the spillway.

Curtis baited the poles while Ava sat patiently in a little red wagon and the boys frolicked nearby.

He checked the time on his cell phone: “8:09” he exclaimed and positioned Owen and Jack along the shore line.

Helping his sons cast their lines into the lake, he encouraged them to be patient and watch their bobbers carefully.

Both Owen and Jack had fish on their lines but failed to bring them ashore. However, on his second attempt, Jack found success, catching his first rainbow trout. “This is the best day for youth fishing,” said Curtis. “It’s not as fun with the adult anglers ... this is perfect!”
