Mineo combines for no-hitter for SRU

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock High graduate Ricky Mineo, a freshman pitcher for Slippery Rock University’s baseball team, was part of The Rock’s first no-hitter in six years in Thursday’s 7-2 win over Wheeling Jesuit at Critchfield Park.

Mineo started the game, the second of a doubleheader, and struck out six and walked six over three innings.

Reliever Joe Dombrowski worked the final four frames, striking out nine and walking four. Both pitchers allowed an unearned run.

Dombrowski picked up the win.

SRU center fielder Frankie Jezioro was the offensive star of the game, going 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two runs batted in.

The Rock (8-13), which lost the first game, 9-5, hosts a doubleheader Saturday against Clarion.
