Historical society presents cemetery walk May 18, 19

John Carlson portrays Robert V. Myers, one of the early Pennsylvania State Police troopers, during a previous Butler County Historical Society cemetery walk. This year's “Echoes from Our Past Historic Cemetery Walk” will be offered May 18 and 19 at Northside Cemetery.

As it has in previous years, the Butler County Historical Society will present the “Echoes from Our Past Historic Cemetery Walk,” this time featuring six actors portraying people from the area's past, plus a yet-to-be-announced moment about Butler's pride and joy — the Jeep.

Costumed actors will portray some intriguing characters at 2 p.m. May 18 and 19 at the grounds of the North Side Cemetery.

This is not a ghost walk, but rather a look into county history. All information provided is factual and related to historical events of the county area and the lives of the people and families who lived here.

A tribute to Butler's veterans is also planned.

The cemetery walk is a collaboration between the historical society, Butler County Community College's theater and history departments, and the North Side Cemetery Association.

Characters this year and the wars they were associated with include:

-John Moser, Revolutionary War, portrayed by Thom Bennett

-John T. Kelly, Civil War, portrayed by Michael Booser

-James F. Leetch, Spanish-American War and World War I, portrayed by Christian Cendrowski

-Charles B. Edwards, World War II, portrayed by William Franklin

-Bruce E. Keefer, Korean War, portrayed by Reid Kruger

-Nancy M. Pakutz, Vietnam War, portrayed by Victoria Allen.

The tour will last about 1¾ hours at the cemetery at 1002 N. Main St.

Tickets are $14 for adults and $10 for students ages 10 to 21 and for society members.

For tickets, visit the society office at the Senator Walter Lowrie House, 123 W. Diamond St., directly behind the Butler County Courthouse, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesdays. The office will also be open from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 10 and 17.
