Musical Theatre Guild opens “Assassins” by Stephen Sondheim and John Weidman on Friday at the William A. Lehnerd Performance Hall at the rear of Butler Memorial Park.
Curtain is a 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday as well as April 11, 12 and 13.

[naviga:h3]CranFest takes place Saturday[/naviga:h3]
The fifth annual CranFest, organized by the Cranberry Area Diversity Network runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Cranberry Township Municipal Center, 2525 Rochester Road. Admission is free.
The event will feature music, dancing, food and information booths about cultures around the world.
Stage presentations will run simultaneously in the gymnasium and the building’s Town Square. Performers include dancers from the Philippines, Ireland, Bulgaria, China and India. New this year are Kendo, a traditional Japanese martial art using bamboo swords, and Taiko, a Japanese drum ensemble.
[naviga:h3]Bach Society sings at church[/naviga:h3]
The Bach Society in collaboration with the Pittsburgh Youth Chorus, a Grove City College satellite group, will present “Always Something Sings.”
The choral concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. May 3 at Center Presbyterian Church, Slippery Rock, and at 7:30 p.m. May 4 at Tower Presbyterian Church, Grove City.
Admission is free.
[naviga:h3]Very Special Arts featured[/naviga:h3]
Grove City College is hosting the 30th annual Very Special Arts Exhibit through April 17 in the gallery of the Pew Fine Arts Center on campus.
The exhibit showcases an array of original artwork created by children with special needs.
The gallery is open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays.
A reception in honor of the student artists will be held Saturday. Student artists will receive awards from exhibit sponsors: the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and the Thirty Three Foundation.
Very Special Arts showcases artwork of students in 27 school districts in Butler, Lawrence and Mercer counties.
[naviga:h3]Jennings starts new exhibit[/naviga:h3]
Jennings Environmental Education Center will host an open house for the center’s newly-installed exhibits from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.
The new exhibits feature representations of prairie plants and wildlife above and below ground and interactive animations of the geological story of our region.
Staff will answer questions and guide explorations.
Award-winning photos from the 2018 Audubon Photography Contest will also be on display, hosted by Bartramian Audubon Society.
