Butler County's great daily newspaper

It's time for PRD ordinance to go

This is in response to the Middlesex Township opposes Grey Hawk articles that appeared in the March 27th paper.

I applaud the Middlesex Township Supervisors for listening to their residents and opposing the Grey Hawk PRD. It is about time public officials actually represent those who currently live in their township and not the developer.

The threat of a “lawsuit” from the developers is throughout Butler County townships and municipalities.

What appalls me are public officials who have no problem with a lawsuit from their residents trying to protect the very thing they were elected to do.

The PRD, due to the very nature of the timing of the approval process, needs to be eliminated from the ordinances and bring the oversight and authority back to the township officials.

In Adams Township, now developers are wanting to destroy the land with 25 percent or more steep slopes, which in every aspect of the current ordinances and comprehensive plan should be land that is “protected.” Instead of standing firm, Adams Township is actually considering the revision of their “steep slope” ordinance. The technical responsibility is being removed from the township and given to the developer.

The only answer to resolve these issues is to remove the PRD because it is unbelievable to hear and read the number of times this is quoted by public officials and solicitors: “The PRD has met and followed the ordinance and guidelines” and “We cannot say no or we will be sued.”
