Mars baseball 4-0; Moniteau track records fall

Shane Fox scattered six hits over six innings and Mars stayed undefeated in the early season Wednesday with an 9-1 baseball win over Beaver.

Gabe Franz hit a two-run homer for the Planets (4-0) and J.J. Wetherholt had a pair of doubles.

Mars hosts Knoch Friday.

Adrienne Narcone allowed five hits on the mound and hit a pair of homers at the plate as North Catholic defeated Central Valley, 13-5, in its season opener.

Meghan Grill also homered for the Trojanettes. Narcone and Grill had three RBI each.

Track and Field

James Parenti and Kyle Norling each broke school records as the Moniteau boys track and field team edged Karns City, 76-74.

Parenti broke the school mark in the discus with a throw of 161-9.

Norling broke the pole vault record, clearing 14-1½.

The Moniteau girls also beat Karns City 76-74. Hannah Burgoon and Kendall Grossman were multiple winners.

Mike Doyle scored nine goals and added three assists as Mars rolled to a 20-6 win over Gateway.

Freeport 14, Plum 4 — Garret Schaffhauser had four goals and three assists Tuesday as the Yellowjackets opened section play.

Carter Dougherty added two goals and two assists, Sean Fennell two goals and an assist. Hunter Turner led the way defensively.
