A Center Township man who told state police he has anger issues was arrested Monday for allegedly making a threat against the Butler School District.

Benjamin David Jacox, 24, of 116 Grosvenor Ave., was charged with a third-degree felony count of terroristic threats. He could face up to seven years in prison and a $15,000 fine.

Jacox was being held in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bond.

In a criminal complaint, police said the threat was emailed to the Butler Eagle, and the newspaper forwarded it to authorities and the school district Monday morning.

Jacox admitted to police that he sent the email out of anger and knew it was wrong, according to the affidavit. He further told troopers that he has anger issues and there are firearms in his home, police said.

Trooper Richard Giustini wrote in his complaint that “The defendant related he could see himself hurting someone while he is in his fits of anger.”

As part of the conditions set forth at his arraignment, District Judge Lewis Stoughton ordered that Jacox have no access to firearms, weapons, school property and the Butler Eagle. His preliminary hearing is tentatively scheduled for 1:30 p.m. April 2.

The email cited in the affidavit filed by Giustini read: “Hello, I have bad news for the community here in Butler. More crimes, and shootings will happen at Butler high school. I would watch out for tomorrow, or next week, or maybe next month. Consider you're self (sic) warned.”

The email prompted school officials to impose a perimeter lockdown for the high school and intermediate high school campuses.

School records contained information about a previous student whose parents had the email address from which the threat was sent, according to police.

The lockdown was lifted just before 1 p.m.

Police said they consulted with the district attorney's office before charging Jacox.
