Mars' Pierre gets 4th place in 200 freestyle
LEWISBURG — Mars senior swimmer Andrew Pierre finished fourth in the 200-yard freestyle final with a time of 1 minute, 42.58 seconds at the PIAA Class AA Swimming and Diving Championships Wednesday at Bucknell University.
“It was a big deal for him (Pierre) to come back out here and pull a fourth place, which I think is his best finish at states ever,” Mars coach Todd Slobodnyak said. “He felt good this morning after his prelim swim and he felt good after tonight which is a good sign for him.”
Pierre was fifth in the preliminary race.
Fellow Planets' swimmer Aiden Wolf placed 32nd in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:52.43.
Knoch had an action-filled evening with athletes in four events. The boys finished 15th in the 200 medley relay prelims with a time of 1:41.99 behind Zach Wilson, Matt Cummings, Michael Phillips, and Bradon Zukowski.
In the boys 200 individual medley prelims, Cummings placed ninth with a time of 1:59.75, just missing the finals cut, while Zukowski finished 16th.
The Knight boys then placed 16th in the 200 freestyle relay behind Wilson, Zukowski, Cummings, and Caden Traggiai with a time of 1:32.23.
“He's (Cummings) a true leader, leads by example. He's the glue on this team keeping them together,” Knoch coach Rick Hassler said.
For the Knoch girls, Kristen Jerich finished 13th in the 1-meter diving prelims, while improving to 12th in the semifinals, and 10th in the finals.
In the girls 200 freestyle relay prelims, Freeport finished 14th with a time of 1:53.22 led by Ariana Clark, Alexis Schrecongost, Madison Moretti, and Isabella Parks.
North Catholic placed 19th in the event behind Emma Kunzmann, Julia Kocsis, Brittney Carmazzi, and Ainsley Bissett with a time of 1:54.35.
Schrecongost then finished 22nd in the 200 individual medley prelims, while Kocsis placed 30th.
Carmazzi finished 13th in the girls 100 butterfly with a time of 58.59, while Kocsis placed 28th, and Moniteau's Baily Trettel finished 30th with a time of 1:01.81.
Class AA action will continue Thursday with girls prelims starting at 8 a.m., while the boys prelims will begin at 10:50 a.m.
