Conservation District conducts seedling sale

The Butler County Conservation District is conducting its 2019 seedling sale.

Seedlings being sold include Eastern Hemlock, Eastern White Pine, White Spruce, Eastern Redbud, White Flowering Dogwood, American Hazelnut, Common Persimmon, American Elderberry, Forsythia and Winterberry Holly. All seedlings are bare root.

The plants offered provide a wide variety of conservation plantings for wildlife, songbirds, windbreaks, erosion control and other needs.

The district is also partnering with The Arc of Butler County this year to offer tree shelter kits. These kits are produced and assembled locally by The Arc of Butler County employees with varying special needs and disabilities.

Tree shelter kits consist of a tree tube, a mesh top, zip ties and a wooden stake. These shelters are designed to give your trees the best start possible by protecting them from wildlife and harsh environmental conditions. These will be sold in bundles of five kits. Tree shelters are only recommended for deciduous tree — and not evergreens, shrubs, or berry bushes.

Orders are due by March 31. Forms can be found at the district’s website at www.bccdonline.org. Proceeds benefit the district’s programs.

Orders can be picked up from noon to 4 p.m. April 26 or 9 a.m. to noon April 27 at the district office, 122 McCune Drive, or 9 a.m. to noon at April 27 at Glade Run Lake.

For more information, call the district at 724-284-5270.
