One of the two Butler City Council members whose terms in office end this year is running for re-election.

Butler City Councilman Michael Walter, director of accounts and finance, said he is running for a second term in office on the Republican ballot.

Walter said he would like to retain the accounts and finance director's position if he is re-elected.

“I feel like I've done a decent job so far. The city is more financially stable than when I took office. We really have a long way to go to reach real stability. It's a long process to do this,” Walter said. “I would like to continue doing this to keep the ball rolling, so we can make progress for our financial stability.”

He said he would continue supporting employees in all departments.

“Our police department is doing great. Our fire department is doing great. All of our departments are doing great. All of our employees are dedicated and motivated,” he said. “If our employees are dedicated to the welfare of the city, it makes the job a whole lot easier, and they really are.”

Walter said he would like to see the number of homeowners increase.

“I would like to see more owner-occupied housing as opposed to rentals. We have a disproportionately high number of rentals,” he said.

Democratic Councilman Corey Roche, the director of public safety, said that he will not seek a second term.

Bob Dandoy, a retired teacher and former member of Butler Downtown, is running for council as a Democrat.

Republican Treasurer John Grenci's term also expires at the end of the year. He said he hasn't decided if he will run for a second term.
