6 matmen reach semifinals
CANONSBURG — Five Seneca Valley wrestlers and Mars' Jake Richardson advanced to the semifinals at the WPIAL Class AAA Wrestling Championships Friday night at Canon-McMillan High School.
Still alive in the championship bracket for the Raiders are Dylan Chappell (37-4) at 106 pounds, Alejandro Herrera-Rondon (42-1) at 113, Jason Geyer (34-9) at 132, Drew Vlasnik (31-9) at 138 and Antonio Amelio (28-13) at 145.
Richardson (26-2) advanced at 160 pounds for the Planets.
Losing quarterfinal matches and falling into the second round of consolations Friday were the Raiders' Nick Montalbano (27-10) at 152, and Patrick Johnson (21-11) at 182, Butler's Cooper Baxter (29-9) at 170 and Shawndell Zapata (19-9) at 220, and Knoch's Eli Reese (19-11) at 285.
Losing first-round matches, but staying alive with wins in the first round of consolations were Mars' Noah Hunkele at 113 and Christian Scheller at 132, Butler's Steven Green at 145, Jack Codispot at 160 and Caleb Hartung at 195.
The tournament will conclude Saturday.
