Suspect wanted on drug charges turns himself in
A felony drug suspect whose Butler apartment was the target of a warrant search that allegedly turned up heroin, rock and powder cocaine, and other contraband is behind bars.
Christopher M. Miller, 31, turned himself in to authorities Friday — a day after the Butler County Drug Task Force obtained an arrest warrant for him, authorities said.
He is jailed on a probation violation and is to be arraigned Monday on the latest charges.
He is charged with three counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and one count of conspiracy, all of which are felonies. He also is charged with misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
Miller allegedly allowed three out-of-county men to use his apartment on the 200 block of West Brady Street to sell drugs, said Tim Fennell, the county's chief detective who leads the drug task force.
The task force arrested the trio of co-defendants — Floyd B. Carpenter, 35, of Pittsburgh and Mark A. Cook, 35, and Sahire A. Walker, 40, both of New Castle, during Wednesday's search.
County probation officers notified Fennell around 10 a.m. after allegedly finding suspected drugs and related items at Miller's apartment while making a routine compliance check.
Carpenter, Cook and Walker were at the home. Miller was out of town.
One of the probation officers called Miller on the phone. He said he was in East Brady.
Later that day, the task force obtained a search warrant for the apartment.
Fennell said officers found the following suspected drugs: 30 grams of unpackaged heroin, 44 stamp bags of heroin, 61.2 grams of crack cocaine and 7 grams of powder cocaine.
Additional items found were 2,000 unused stamp bags for packaging heroin, according to court documents, and two digital scales.
Authorities also confiscated $1,275 in currency that was in a pair of jeans that apparently belonged to Carpenter. A search of Cook led to the discovery of $460 in currency.
Carpenter, Cook and Walker were arraigned Wednesday on the same charges as Miller. They are in the Butler County Prison on $100,000 bail each.
