A young woman was airlifted to Pittsburgh Thursday afternoon after flipping her vehicle on its side on Aspen Road in Fairview Township, according to a firefighter on the scene.

The woman was described as about 18 years old by Chuck Barnes, chief of the Petrolia Volunteer Fire Department. She suffered moderate injuries, he said, and had already climbed out of the vehicle by herself when emergency crews arrived.

She appeared to have overcorrected her vehicle while going around a corner, Barnes said. The wreck occurred around 1:40 p.m. on Aspen Road near Hooker Road.

She was transported from the scene by helicopter to Forbes Hospital in Pittsburgh.

The helicopter’s original landing site near the scene was deemed too muddy for landing, so its crew instead landed by the Fairview Township Municipal Building about two miles away. The woman was transported to the landing site via a Karns City Regional Ambulance Service ambulance.
