WORTH TWP — An accused drugged driver faces a hearing next month in connection with a weekend traffic stop in northern Butler County, where police allegedly caught him with bags of marijuana.

Brian S. Henning, 56, of Cheswick, Allegheny County, who is free on $30,000 unsecured bail, is charged with felony drug possession in the case.

State police said they stopped Henning around 6:10 p.m. Saturday after he made a lane change without using his turn signals while traveling south on Interstate 79 in Worth Township.

Trooper Philip Treadway approached the defendant’s car and smelled marijuana, according to court documents. He also noticed a pill bottle with what appeared to be marijuana in it.

Henning, police said, admitted that he had smoked marijuana earlier that day. He was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence following field sobriety tests that indicated he was impaired.

Treadway searched the car, documents said, and found several plastic bags and the pill bottle, all of which contained marijuana. Packages of suspected THC oil were also found.

Police took the defendant to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results are pending, police said.

District Judge Bill O’Donnell arraigned Henning on a felony charge of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Additionally, he is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance and three traffic violations.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for March 6 at O’Donnell’s office in Slippery Rock.
