SAXONBURG — A young father hoping to build a house to accommodate his growing family wants to work with the borough council to drain the land he hopes to buy.

Chad Dolby of West Deer Township told the council at its Tuesday meeting that he is interested in about three acres near Roebling Park, where he wants to build a house.

He said the property abuts the park near Cooper Hall museum. He said both properties often have standing water on them due to a lack of drainage.

Dolby proposed that the borough install a system to drain the park property into which he could tie his lot. Both the borough and Dolby would benefit from the drainage, he said.

Councilman Scott Herbst said an engineering study was done on the park a few years ago and the council would have to take another look at it to see what drainage recommendations it includes.

Herbst said he is in favor of providing drainage.

“It's been a need to have (the park's) water issues addressed for a long time,” Herbst said. “It keeps getting kicked down the road.”

Dolby asked council to also approve a driveway off the parking lot to the museum, so he could build the house without upsetting neighbors by cutting down several trees to access the street.

Herbst said many cars park in that area during events held at the museum.

The council did not take action on Tuesday night regarding Dolby's requests.
