Woman faces assault, DUI
BUTLER TWP — A woman was flagged for alleged unsportsmanlike conduct at a Super Bowl party.
Butler Township police said they arrested Brenda A. Ainsworth, 49, of Middlesex Township late Sunday night after she assaulted her fiancé at the home where he lives.
She left, but not before she allegedly took the victim's cell phone.
District Judge Dave Kovach arraigned Ainsworth on charges of simple assault, theft, criminal mischief and harassment. She is free on her own recognizance.
Police said they were called to the house shortly before 11 p.m. for a domestic dispute. A neighbor reported seeing a woman assaulting a man and then driving away.
Officers spoke to the victim, who identified himself as the defendant's fiancé. He told them Ainsworth had been at his house earlier that night for the Super Bowl party he was hosting, according to court documents.
The two had gotten into an argument and she left in her vehicle. But, he recounted, she returned about 10 minutes later.
She is accused of beating on his door and yelling, claiming that he had her cell phone. The victim said he didn't have her phone and told her to leave. He believed she was intoxicated.
She eventually forced open the door by ramming it with her shoulder, documents said. The door frame was broken in the incident. Damage was estimated at $1,200.
Once in the home, Ainsworth yelled at her boyfriend and eventually “began grabbing (him),” according to a police affidavit, “scratching and ripping his shirt.”
She allegedly pushed the victim, who fell to the floor, took his cell phone, valued at $150, and fled in her car.
Police said the man suffered a lump above the right eye and he had scratches on his back and side.
Shortly after driving away, Ainsworth was stopped by a Middlesex Township police officer, who happened to be conducting roving DUI patrols for Super Bowl Sunday.
The officer said he stopped her for traveling 74 mph in a 50 mph zone at Route 8 and McFann Road.
A breath test subsequently showed her blood-alcohol level at about 0.15 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.
Middlesex Township police said they plan to charge her with driving under the influence and speeding.
Butler Township police noted they recovered the victim's cell phone.
Ainsworth's preliminary hearing is scheduled for Feb. 21. Online court records did not list an attorney for her. She could not be reached for comment.
