[naviga:h3]Hoop Shoot winner advances to state[/naviga:h3]

Kyle Casteel, winner of the boys 10-11 age division at the recent Butler Elks Hoop Shoot, also placed first in the district competition.

Casteel sank 23 of 25 free throws and will advance to the state competition in early March.

Other Butler Elks Hoop Shoot winners were Chloe Dorcy and Avery Randolph (ages 8-9), Mikaela Zillweger and Casteel (10-11). Justine Forbes and Luke Shoemaker (ages 12-13),

Chloe Dorcy and Forbes placed third at districts, Zillweger second.

[naviga:h3]KC grad Pennington PAC’s top rookie[/naviga:h3]

PITTSBURGH — Karns City graduate Rebecca Pennington, a freshman distance runner for Chatham University, has been named President’s Athletic Conference Women’s Track and Field Rookie of the Week.

Pennington won the 3,000-meter race Saturday at Edinboro’s Al Hall Freedom Games with a time of 10 minutes, 34.04 seconds.

She also anchored Chatham’s second-place 4x800 relay team, which ran a school-record time of 11:16.70.

[naviga:h3]SRU ends contract with coach Reynolds[/naviga:h3]

SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock University athletic director Paul Lueken recently announced the University is ending its contractual relationship with head men’s basketball coach Kevin Reynolds.

Reynolds has been on administrative leave this season. Assistant coach Ian Grady was named acting head coach at the beginning of the season.

Grady will finish this season as acting head coach. SRU is taking a 12-game winning streak into Wednesday night’s game at Gannon.
