Craig breaks BC3 record
Karns City graduate Mackenzie Craig broke the Butler County Community College women’s basketball career scoring record Saturday in the Pioneeers’ 80-73 loss at Potomac State (Md.).
Craig scored 24 points and grabbed 18 rebounds as the Pioneers fell to 4-9 on the season. She now has 1,102 points, snapping Julia Baxter’s former program record of 1,093.
Craig broke the record by sinking a technical free throw.
Casey Kretzer scored 26 points for BC3 while Carly Burdett added 17 points and Jenna Heitzenrater snared 10 rebounds.
Potomac State 115, BC3 (men) 80
Butler graduate Joel Stutz secured a triple-double in the loss, scoring 22 points, grabbing 11 rebounds and dishing out 10 assists. He also became the Pioneers’ third leading men’s basketball scorer all-time with 1,089 points, surpassing Matt Lobaugh.
Stutz’s twin brother, Jace, missed the game with a foot injury.
Jordan Sager scored 22 points for BC3 and Jake Slomers netted 16.
Both BC3 teams are home Monday night, the women facing CCBC at 5 p.m., the men playing CCAC Boyce at 7 p.m.
Slippery Rock (men) 88, Edinboro 71
Micah Till and John Warren II scored 25 points each as The Rock (14-5, 11-1) won its 12th straight game, defeating the Fighting Scots on the road.
SRU’s school-record win streak is 16 games, set during the 1989-90 season.
Till added seven rebounds, three assists and two steals for SRU. Jared Armstrong had 12 points and five rebounds.
Trey Staunch paced Edinboro (5-12, 2-10) with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
Edinboro 85, SRU (women) 64
Junior guard Brooke Hinderliter became the 13th player in Rock women’s hoop history to score 1,000 points. She had 21 points and five rebounds in the loss.
Ciara Patterson scored 17 points, sinking four treys. She had four assists as well. Karns City graduate LeeAnn Gibson came off the bench to score eight points and grab six rebounds.
The Rock slipped to 8-10 overall, 6-6 in the PSAC. Bridgette Shaffer scored 11 points and grabbed 12 rebounds, Jontay Walton 13 points and 10 rebounds for Edinboro (12-5, 8-4).
Both SRU teams travel to Gannon Wednesday night.
