CLEARFIELD TWP — So much for brotherly love.

State police allege two brothers got into a fight early Sunday morning that left both bruised and bloodied and in need of hospital treatment.

But only the younger sibling, Joshua P. Luchkiw, 33, of Butler, landed behind bars after police say he also assaulted a trooper.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Luchkiw on charges of aggravated assault, resisting arrest, simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. He is in the Butler County Prison on $30,000 bail.

Basil A. Luchkiw, 36, also was arrested and ended up at a Pittsburgh hospital where he received additional medical care for injuries, police said. He's charged with simple assault and harassment.

Police said they were called about 1:15 a.m. for a domestic dispute between brothers at the older defendant's home on Criley Road in Clearfield Township.

Both Luchkiws were “highly intoxicated,” according to court documents.

The investigation determined that the brothers had gotten into an argument that turned physical with each throwing punches to the head and face of the other.

Both had facial injuries, police said, including “swollen, blackened and bloody eyes.”

But troopers said Joshua Luchkiw told them that it was a family fight and “none of our business,” a police affidavit said.

He was placed in handcuffs but while being taken out of the house, according to the affidavit, he “violently threw his body weight against Trooper Shaun Milkovich,” pinning the officer against the refrigerator.

Another trooper intervened and shoved Luchkiw away.

Police subsequently pinned the defendant to the floor. They said they also had to place him in a spit mask.

Both brothers were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. Police said Basil Luchkiw needed further treatment at the unspecified hospital in Pittsburgh.
