SRU basketball sweeps Clarion

Rock men roll to 9th win in row, top PSAC West

SLIPPERY ROCK — Jared Armstrong scored 25 points Wednesday night as the Slippery Rock University men’s basketball team defeated Clarion, 97-64, at Morrow Field House.

The Rock (11-5, 8-1) won its ninth straight game and remained in a tie atop the PSAC West standings.

SRU had a 50-32 lead by halftime and cruised from there. John Warren II had 20 points and Micah Till contributed 17 points and 13 rebounds.

Elijah Cottrill paced Clarion (4-9, 2-7) with 14 points.

Women

SRU 86, Clarion 61— The Rock was led by Brooke Hinderliter’s 24 points and five rebounds. Morgan Henderson also helped, posting 13 points with 11 rebounds.

Clarion trailed by six at halftime, but Slippery Rock was able to pull away in the second half — outscoring Clarion 48-32 —including a 27-point fourth quarter.

The Rock women (7-8, 5-4) ended their four-game losing streak. Morgan Henderson scored 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds while Karns City graduate LeeAnn Gibson had seven points and six rebounds.

Both SRU teams play Friday at Mansfield. The women tip off at 5 p.m., the men at 7 p.m.

Joel Stutz scored 33 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead Butler County Community College to a 111-79 men’s basketball win over Westmoreland County CC.

Jace Stutz contributed 22 points and 10 assists while Andrew Yonker scored 17 points and Josh Knochel 13.

The Pioneers (6-9, 3-0) host Pitt-Titusville Saturday. The women’s game is at noon, the men at 2 p.m.
