Mars Public Library, 107 Grand Ave., is to host an educational bird presentation at noon Saturday. Admission is free. Register at 724-625-9048.

Jennings Environmental Education Center, Route 528, Brady Township, plans a Prairie Improvement Day from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The event is free but registration is required. Volunteers will help the Jennings staff manage the prairie ecosystem. Call the center at 724-794-6011. The program “Step Into Snowshoes” takes place through February when conditions are suitable. Snowshoes are available to borrow for free and use within the park on a first-come, first-served basis from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and on snowy Saturdays. One person in the party must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license. Call to check snow depth and trail conditions.

Moraine State Park will host Volunteer Work Days from 10 a.m. to noon Friday and Saturday from the South Shore park office. Volunteers will help clear brush and fallen branches from the Pleasant Valley and Sunken Garden trails so they are open for hikers and can be groomed for cross-country skiing. Rain or shine, dress for the weather, and take work gloves, snacks and water. No reservations are needed, but call the park office at 724-368-8811 about groups participating.

A Pa. Basic Boating Course is planned for 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 26 at Unionville Fire Hall, 102 Mahood Road. Call 724-368-8811 for reservations.
