The welcome sign and surrounding flower bed welcoming people to Harmony was struck by a truck again, less than a month after a similar incident. The borough hasn't yet made repairs from the Dec. 14 event.

HARMONY — Less than a month after a similar incident, a tractor-trailer struck the borough's welcome sign, leading borough officials to speak out on truck traffic in the area.

The collision occurred at about 9 a.m. Friday, with the truck striking the raised flower bed and sign on Harmony's Main Street, according to officials.

Borough Councilman Cathy Rape, who has been trying to solve the issue of trucks driving on Main Street despite signs directing them to use alternative routes, said it's sickening to see the damages continue to pile up.

The borough has not yet had the opportunity to clean up damages from the last truck that backed into a Main Street sign on Dec. 14.

“I don't want people to feel sorry for us,” Rape said. “I just want some common sense.”

Due to the holidays, borough officials were not able to find someone to give them an estimate on repairing the bricks from the first incident. At Tuesday night's borough council meeting, council members agreed to reach out to a few different businesses that could do the repairs and gather pricing information.

Rape said the truck drivers often use the excuse that their GPS takes them down Main Street, but the area is marked to discourage trucks from going there because they don't have enough space.

Harmony borough is trying to get in touch with U.S. Linear to find a solution for this ongoing problem, Rape said, but has not received a call back.
