BUTLER TWP — A suspected shoplifter apparently craving a sugar fix or a mid-day energy boost is accused of targeting the same store — five times in a two-week span.

Each day, Butler Township police said, Donald F. Montgomery Jr., 25, of Chicora pocketed two candy bars at a time at the Sheetz on Route 68. Occasionally, he allegedly helped himself to a Red Bull.

And the routine, police noted, played out around lunch time each day.

Store surveillance video eventually helped police identify the suspected serial shoplifter, who struck three times in November and twice in December.

Police on Wednesday charged Montgomery with five separate summary counts of retail theft.

He is accused of taking two candy bars on Nov. 19, 20 and 30 and Dec. 3 and 4. Police said he swiped one can of Red Bull energy drink Nov. 20 and two cans of the same drink Dec. 4.

All the thefts happened around 11:30 a.m. In all, the pilfered merchandise totaled $28.17.
