EAST BUTLER — A cleaning employee is accused of stealing two large-screen televisions and other property totaling nearly $8,000 from a borough business.

Chandler S. Weltner, 24, of Butler last week admitted to the alleged crime in December at IDL Worldwide on Grant Avenue, state police said.

On Friday, District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned Weltner on felony charges of burglary, trespass and theft. He was later released on his own recognizance and is awaiting a preliminary hearing Feb. 12 at Stoughton's office in Chicora.

Police said an investigation determined that the defendant, a contracted cleaning employee, entered the business around 5 p.m. Dec. 9 by using a key card.

But on that day, according to court documents, he was not scheduled to work at IDL Worldwide — a national and international point-of-purchase merchandising company.

He also is accused of trying to enter areas in the building for which he did not have security clearance.

A security camera, police said, captured the defendant at the scene of the suspected crime as he was carrying a TV box.

Investigators allege that Weltner, in all, made off with a 65-inch TV, a 55-inch TV, a sound bar and subwoofer speaker. The items are valued at a combined $7,599.

On Jan. 3, documents said, he provided police with a written confession.
