Till hits for 35 in SRU victory
ERIE — Micah Till scored a career-high 35 points Saturday as the Slippery Rock University men's basketball team defeated Mercyhurst, 92-91, in double overtime.
The Rock (8-5, 5-1) won its sixth game in a row. SRU trailed by nine with 6:58 to play before rallying to force overtime.
Mercyhurst (8-3, 3-3), which lost at home for the first time this season, had a seven-point lead with 50 seconds left in the first overtime. But Nolen Gerald sank two free throws, Till stole the ball and laid it in, then hit a game-tying trey with 12 seconds left.
Till fouled out with 2:08 left in the second overtime, SRU leading 92-89 at the time. The Rock held on for the win.
Till added 11 rebounds and five assists for the day and is now 67 points shy of becoming the 22nd Rock player to score 1,000 in a career.
Jared Armstrong scored 16 points, Vinny Lasley had 13 points and six rebounds, Gerald 12 points, six boards and four assists, John Wareren II 11 points.
Jason Massey led the Lakers with 32 points and 11 rebounds.
Mercyhurst 80, SRU 56 — The Rock (6-6, 4-2) led for most of the first half, but the Lakers (6-7, 3-3) rallied for a 34-29 lead by halftime and pulled away in the second half.Brooke Hinderliter had 19 points and seven rebounds for SRU. Morgan Henderson had 10 rebounds and Karns City graduate LeeAnn Gibson had a season-high six rebounds.Both Rock teams travel to California (Pa.) Wednesday night before hosting Indiana (Pa.) Saturday afternoon at Morrow Field House.
CCBC 121, Butler County Community College 66 — The Pioneers (3-8) were overwhelmed by No. 10 NJCAA Div. II foe CCBC (13-1), falling behind 19-0 early.Joel Stutz had 22 points, eight assists and six rebounds, Jace Stutz 17 points for BC3.
