COUNTYHarmony Museum, 218 Mercer St., will be part of the annual New Year’s Eve and German heritage celebration, Silvester, which starts at 3:30 p.m. Dec. 31. The countdown into the New Year will kick off around 6 p.m. — or midnight in Germany. Most of the festivities wrap up by 6:30 or 7 p.m. Attractions will include self-guided museum tours, a dinner, the comedic short film “Dinner for One,” and the annual Christmas tree toss for adults and wreath toss for children. PITTSBURGHHeinz History Center, 1212 Smallman St., continues “Destination Moon: The Apollo 11 Mission,” which explores the space race through Feb. 18. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, except holidays. Admission is $18 for adults, $15 for senior citizens, $9 for children 6 to 17, and free for children 5 and younger. The aviary will also feature light displays on its building and habitats, from December through early January. MessFest, Carnegie Science Center’s tradition to kick off the New Year, is free with general admission on Jan. 1 and features the slimiest and gooiest activities for visitors of all ages from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Regular science center hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The center will close at 4 p.m. Monday and Dec. 31, and will be closed all day on Tuesday and Dec. 30. Admission is $19.95 for adults and $11.95 for children ages 3 to 12; films are extra.
