PENN TWP — Police suspect drugs were to blame for a single-vehicle crash on Renfrew Road.

Cpl. Dennis Crawford of the Penn Township police said a 35-year-old man from Monaca, Beaver County, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test to determine which, if any, substances were in the man's system Tuesday morning when he plummeted down a bank and into the woods on Renfrew Road.

The man, an employee of a landscaping company, failed to negotiate a sharp bend near the entrance to the Saxonburg Area Authority treatment plant while driving a company truck and hauling an empty trailer.

The white pickup truck and tarp-covered trailer came to rest just inside the woods, stopping short of the Thorn Creek 20 feet away.

Crawford said he suspected the uninjured driver was impaired and immediately took him into custody.

On Tuesday afternoon, Crawford was still waiting for results of the blood test to determine whether charges would be filed against the man.

The truck and trailer were pulled from the woods using a heavy duty wrecker.

Butler Ambulance, Penn Township Volunteer Fire Department and Middlesex police also responded to the scene, Crawford said.
