Court was in session for students at Holy Sepulcher
MIDDLESEX TWP — Court was in session Thursday morning at Holy Sepulcher Catholic School, where the fourth grade class held a mock trial with Judge Sue Haggerty.
Haggerty presided over the hearing while students took to the witness stand and presented their evidence to a jury.
The court case was about a stolen birthday cake, and the verdict was decided by a jury of fifth grade students. Haggerty said the scenario played out like a common pleas court.
Haggerty said she hoped the mock trial helped students to learn about court systems as well as the importance of decision-making in their own lives.
“Not a lot of kids do these mock trials,” she said. “I’ve done different ones over at Knoch High School in the past. I think it’s a good learning experience to understand the court system and the flow. And it’s nice to see all the kids dress up like they’re going to court in their little suits.”
