Sunday — Nine people were arrested for driving under the influence during roving and stationary DUI patrols conducted over the Thanksgiving holiday period between Wednesday and Sunday.

Police said they checked 198 vehicles. In addition to the DUIs, police made six drug arrests and arrested three people wanted on probation violations. They also issued 24 traffic citations and 33 warnings.

1:31 a.m. Nov. 10 — A Mercer County man was arrested for DUI after police said he made an improper turn on Route 8 at Sunset Drive in Center Township.

The defendant, Jeffrey A. Buchanan Jr., 29, of Farrell, allegedly made such a wide turn onto Sunset Drive that he had to stop and make a three-point turn, according to court documents. Troopers said that afterward he traveled about 50 feet in the wrong lane.

Later, he allegedly stopped in his lane without using hazard lights. Police said he admitted to having recently consumed beer at a local bar. When asked for his driver’s license, documents said, he handed a trooper a medical insurance card.

He eventually was taken for a breath test, which indicated his blood-alcohol level was 0.139 percent.

In addition to DUI, Buchanan is charged with failing to keep right and disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving, failing to use hazard lights and not wearing a seat belt.
