It wasn't exactly ice cream weather Saturday in Butler. But in Coby Waltman's way of thinking, there's never a bad day for the stuff.

“If you like ice cream you're going to eat it,” he said, “cold or not.”

Waltman, a marketing associate for Turkey Hill Dairy, an ice cream distributor headquartered in Lancaster County, was in Butler as part of the company's Good Mooed Tour.

He also came to town — along with a 13½-foot tall model cow — to participate in the city's annual Spirit of Christmas parade.

“That's our big cow,” he said of the — well, big cow. “She goes everywhere. It's our attention-getter.”

Waltman and his giant cow hung out at the parking lot next to the Peoples Gas building on North Main Street all day Saturday until the evening's parade.

As part of the dairy's Good Mooed Tour, he gave out free cups of ice cream — in all-natural vanilla and salted caramel flavors — and hobnobbed with fellow ice cream lovers and curiosity-seekers.

“It's always a fun time talking to people,” Waltman said, “and being in a parade.”

Vanilla, he noted, seemed to be the more popular flavor among Butler Countians.
