Butler-Freeport trail hit by storm

The Butler-Freeport Community Trail was hard-hit last weekend by Winter Storm Avery, as many trees fell across the trail.

Chris Ziegler, president of the Butler-Freeport Community Trail Council, said volunteers have been working since the storm ceased to open the trail to walkers, joggers and cyclists.

Ziegler said while volunteers continue to work on removing trees and limbs from the trail, three sections are clear.

The sections from Bonniebrook Road to Herman, Marwood to Freeport and Laneville to Marwood have been cleared and are open for use.

She said volunteers will continue to toil on the trail until all sections are open.

Downed trees can be reported or residents can become volunteers by emailing Ziegler at butlerfreeporttrail@yahoo.com.
