CRANBERRY TWP — A Zelienople man allegedly tried to run from police on Sunday after they found him attempting to break into a township home.

Joshua E. Wine, 29, of Zelienople, is charged with loitering and prowling at nighttime, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness following the incident.

According to the criminal complaint, officers were called to Berkley Manor Drive for a man attempting to break into a car. Once police arrived, they allegedly found Wine attempting to kick in the victim’s sliding glass door.

Officers told Wine to stop and get on the ground, and Wine allegedly attempted to flee from the scene. Two officers chased after Wine and arrested him after he fell in the grass, police said.

While speaking with Wine, officers allegedly noticed that he had slurred speech and smelled of alcohol. The complaint stated that Wine was unable to answer “simple questions, such as his name, address and phone number.”

Wine was arraigned Sunday morning and is being held on $1,500 bail. A Dec. 21 preliminary hearing is scheduled before District Judge David Kovach.
