Shadrack's light show to open at fairgrounds
Santa Claus is coming to the Big Butler Fairgrounds, and he’s bringing along a sleigh-load of Christmas lights.
This year’s Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland starts Friday and runs through Jan. 6. The event is an annual, drive-through light show where the lights flicker in rhythm with music broadcast via radio waves into visitors’ cars.
The show is 3 miles long.
This year a section is themed “Santa’s Safari,” with much of the show’s light exhibits depicting exotic animals. Santa is also bringing his village. He’ll be available for photographs through Dec. 23, at which point he’ll return to his gift distributing duties up north.
Jack Cohen, president of the Butler County tourism bureau, said the event is likely the biggest Christmas-themed event in Butler County each year.
“It brings a lot of people into Butler County that aren’t ordinarily here,” Cohen said. “We’re very excited to have them back.”
Cohen said the light show is heavily attended by families in the area, and that those families tend to make a night out of it.
“The restaurants in the area really flourish as a result,” Cohen said.
The show is open from 6 to 10 p.m. each night, though it tends to run later on Saturdays and Sundays due to larger crowds.
Taking a car through the show costs $25.
