“These are a few of my favorite things,” is the theme for Chicora’s fifth annual Light-up Night on Nov. 25.

A day full of holiday activities will take place on West Slippery Rock Street beginning at 2 p.m. with the candy cane crawl and pooch parade.

The event features runners, walkers and pooches dressed in holiday attire competing in a one-mile race through town, Prizes will be awarded to participants and pets. Proceeds from the race will be presented to a local organization in recognition of its community service.

The main event will begin at 4 p.m. with vocalists and magician Dan Kuniak performing on the stage in the Chicora post office parking lot. Vendors will be at the event.

Children can meet and take photographs with Santa Claus and Marshall and Chase from PAW Patrol.

Added this year is an ice-carving demonstration by Josalyn Stewart, a local culinary student.

Visitors can also visit the American Legion Museum, which houses memorabilia and the military banners that decorate the streets during the summer. The street will be lined with Christmas trees decorated by area residents,

A “Spirit of Community Award” will be presented to a member of the community who is known for his or her gift of heart, soul and service.

The Chicora Independent Hose Company will host a bonfire, make s’mores for eventgoers and sponsor a “Fill the Freezer” and a “Stocking Stuffer” raffle. Tickets for the raffle can be purchased in advance at the fire hall or at the event.

Light-Up Night will close at 7 p.m. following the blessing and lighting of the community Christmas tree and carol singing on the front lawn of the Moose and Family Center.

The event is funded by donations from individuals and businesses and a pre-event shirt and commemorative coaster sale.

Slippery Rock Street will be closed to traffic that day, beginning at 10 a.m. and will reopen at 9 p.m.
